Awesome Trip To Phuket, Thailand by Nanette Celedonio

Every time I would go for a trip, I couldn't sleep the night before probably because I am too excited and this trip is no different.  After packing up our things, we went to bed but sleep eluded me.  So I was like a zombie the following day.  We woke up at around 4am and left the house at 5.30am.  I told my husband to teach me how to do the self-service check-in at the airport.  It was so simple and I was totally amazed at how fast we were able to check-in at the airport.  We were early and we still had time to grab some breakfast before going to the departure area.

After breakfast we went to Gate 31 and got ready for boarding.  The trip from Singapore to Phuket was only 1 hour and 25 minutes.  As the plane started its descend, we saw the numerous islands from the plane window.  The splendid view was such a great sight. My camera did not give justice to what my eyes were seeing!

Because September is a low season, there were not much people and we were able to be cleared from immigration for less than 15 minutes.  We immediately went to the tour agencies to book for our island hopping and transport to and from the airport.  The island hopping cost 2300 baht per head with one-way free transport from airport to the hotel.   The journey from the airport to the hotel was 45 minutes.  We reached the hotel at around 12nn and I was terribly hungry.  We were supposed to go out for lunch but it rained so hard so we decided to wait for the rain to stop while we stayed at the hotel lobby.

The rain stopped after an hour so we were able to explore the place and we had lunch at a restaurant just across the street.  The place looked so homey and the owners were very accommodating.  We had tom yum, pad thai, pineapple fried rice, spring rolls, mango juice for me and pineapple juice for Daddy.

After lunch, we headed to the shops across the streets for some shopping.  I was able to buy t-shirts for the boys, plus a hat, shirt and swimsuit cover for myself.  When you're shopping in Phuket, you have to haggle to get a good price.  The vendor was initially selling the hat for 500 baht but I was able to get it for 200. The swimsuit cover was originally selling for 350 but I was able to get it for 150 baht.  My husband on the other hand bought 3 shirts for 650 baht. I knew I could have gotten those 3 shirts for 300.

Stores that sell souvenir items are everywhere
We went back to the hotel after shopping, freshen up a bit and rested for a while. After our short nap, we went down to the fourth floor where the swimming pool was located and we decided to have a quick dip into the water.  We found out that there was a mini-bar at the pool so we had  a few bottles of beer while listening to our favourite music and reminiscing our old times together. Arnold said that he wanted to have a pool bar when he build our own house.  I'd be more than happy if we have a pool in our own house! Pool Bar? That's happiness to the nth power!

After that nostalgic session at the pool, we showered and went down to choose a massage parlor, there were plenty of them across the street and we didn't know which one to choose. The prices were also on the same range. We opted for one with a good lighting and looks clean from the outside. We chose Thai Massage with oil and it felt really good after the massage. I wanted to sleep already but I don't want to pass the night without going to Bangla Road.

Massage parlors are everywhere too and the service is CHEAP but awesome!
We rested for a while then when we felt hunger pangs kick in we went to the Coconut Coffee Shop to try their dinner buffet. The selection was an array of international food ranging from Thai, Indian, Chinese, Vietnamese and Japanese cuisine.

We went clubbing at Bangla Road after dinner, there was this Filipino band playing at one of the bars and we decided to ditch the original plan of watching an adult show. I really wanted to watch the "strip tease" kind of show but I got scared when we were about to enter the club so we just decided to go wholesome and watched the Filipino band performing on the other side of the street.

We went back to the hotel at around 11pm. We need to be up early the following day for our island hopping tour.

We woke up at 6am the following day because the driver will be picking us up at 7.30. We went down the hotel lobby at 7.15.  But to our dismay, the driver was more than an hour late.  He kept on saying sorry when he came making an excuse that there was an accident that happened that's why
he's late.  Well, what can we do?  We just brushed off our irritation so as not to ruin the day. We set out for the island hopping tour and the rest of the people joining the tour were already waiting for us when we reached the dock. Before we rode the boat, the tour guide briefed us about what to expect on our voyage.

The boat is moving to our first stop...The Bamboo Island!
So our first stop is the Bamboo Island. This island has lots of pine trees, I felt like I was in Baguio but on  beach setting.  However, there was no activity here so my husband and I just took lots of photos and chit chat until it was time to go to the next island.

Next stop was the James Bond Island. This island was so amazing, it's so beautiful!  The movies "The Beach", "Jurassic Park" and "Tomorrow Never Dies" were filmed in this location.  I love the lagoon so much! However, we did not stay long in this island because it will soon be low tide and the boat cannot stay in the lagoon if the water was too shallow.

It's breathtaking! Isn't it?

Up next, we fed the monkeys at the Monkey Island, however, we were not able to go down the boat and be up-close with the monkeys.  We were in a hurry coz the water will soon be shallow.

Monkeys love to eat peanuts!
We then headed to Phi phi Island where we had our buffet lunch. Afterwards, we went for a swim/snorkeling and fed the fish at the beach.

After swimming at Phi phi Island, we set off for Khai Island. We had free fruits and drinks courtesy of Bang-bang, our tour guide. She is a very jolly person. She made the tour really fun and enjoyable with her jokes and stories.  She reminded us of the Filipina comedian Tia Pusit. I love the colourful umbrellas at Khai Island. There were also beach chairs were you can relax, however you have to pay 150 baht for two chairs. We rented two chairs because it's difficult to sit down on the shore for a long time.

After seeing and experiencing those wonderful islands, it was time for us to go back to the hotel. We had such a great time. This is such an experience that we will treasure for the rest of our lives.

Back to the hotel, we freshened up then went down to have dinner.  We had Thai iced tea and seafood to satisfy our hungry stomachs. We were thinking of having the lobster but we found it too expensive for 2000 baht per kg. Anyway, the seafood selection that we had is great too! We had fish, shrimp, squid, mussels, clams and cockles plus my favourite mango sticky rice for dessert.

Seafood Galore!

Mango sticky rice! (sooo yummy)
I am very grateful for this experience. I had so much fun and I hope to be back with Angelo and Tristan but with a different itinerary. :-)

Why Mathematics Is Important In Life by Angelo and Tristan Celedonio

I do not like it when my mom makes me keep doing this, but I've got no choice. Here's mine and my brother's essay about Mathematics.

-={The Better Version/My Version}=-

Math, everyone uses it in their daily lives. We use it when we buy stuff using money or when we calculate the amount of time it takes for a ball that's falling from 300m at 245m/s. We also use it to figure out how much EXP we need for your next level or how much HP your Pokemon has left. Could you imagine what would life be like without Mathematics? Mathematicians wouldn't exist, objects wouldn't be symmetrical, there wouldn't be any computer programs. In fact, there would not be any computers at all! Humanity would be severely held back in technology. We're lucky that Maths exists today. It's the reason why Neil Armstrong was able to fly to the moon. It's the reason you can play on Xbox Live. It's the reason why you can call someone a few hundred miles away. It's the reason why you can instantly post your selfies on Instagram. And that's just a few of the many things that Maths has helped in creating. Math is just awesome, don't you think so too?

-={My Little Brother's Version}=-

Math is important because I don't want to be dumb, and if someone asks me a question like a really simple one, if I got it wrong then it would be embarrassing. If there was no Math in life, we would not be able to create light bulbs, computers or other stuff. If there was no Math in life, I would not be able to use the lights, fans, phones or answer Math questions. Money might not even exist! If Math didn't exist, there wouldn't be any clocks and timers, and no man/woman would ever go to the moon. I also wouldn't be able to do stuff I want to do normally.

Quick Bintan Getaway by Angelo Celedonio

When we had reached the ferry station, there were many people but luckily the queue for the boat we were taking was short. My brother kept whining about how scared he was about falling into the water when we had reached the dock. The boat was floating beside it, and there was a wooden slab that was used to get onto the boat. It looked very unstable. The ferry ride was way too long and we had nothing to entertain ourselves with. The boat just kept floating idly there for several minutes. Although, we had tons of snacks and we finished the BBQ-flavored Pringles and Chocolate-flavored Lucky Stix before the ride ended. We were given water too, and my brother and I kept playing with the containers using the straws. Yes, that was how bored we were.

We had arrived at Indonesia, and the queue there was also long. It took up about thirty to forty-five minutes. When we had gotten out, my brother had to go to the restroom. He said that the restrooms were really dirty and that they smelled bad. When we got out onto the bridge that connected the dock to the mainland, we were greeted by one of the tour guides. My parents told me that we were going to take a massage, something that I was not very fond of.

We waited a few minutes for the other people who our tour guide was guiding, and we got onto the bus. It was smaller compared to the tour buses in Singapore. My mother had finally allowed me to use the DS-Lite, and I could continue playing my Pokémon Emerald. When the bus arrived, we entered the building and we had to take off our footwear and put on slippers. The employees who did the massages washed our feet, and led us to the massaging rooms. The rooms were separated by curtains, and the room I was in was beside my brother’s. The massage was weird for me, but my joints felt a little better after it. My dad told me and my brother that we didn’t know how to enjoy massages properly.
We got back into the bus, and we went to where we were going to have lunch. To be honest, the food there wasn’t all that great. The chicken tasted bland, and the iced tea tasted like actual tea, which I really don’t like.

After lunch, we went into a nearby shop. I bought a keychain with my name and Zodiac on it. The person who sold them used a pen that was tipped with a heater instead of ink, the designs he put on my keychain were really cool. We also bought come ice cream, but I wasn’t able to finish mine in time and I had to throw it away.

Instead of a bus, we rode a car to the hotel. I played Pokémon Emerald the entire ride, and when we got to the hotel, the first thing we saw was a small swimming pool a few meters away from the counter. We had to wait in the lobby as my father checked us in. I was playing a hand-game with my brother, and he kept losing. I was about to win another round and I told my brother that he could never beat me, but I lost that specific round. My brother started laughing at me so hard.

Once we got checked in, we got back into the car and drove to our room. Yeah, the blocks are far apart so you have to use a car to get from one place to another. Since there were 4 of us, we had to use two separate rooms that were right beside each other. After we got settled into our rooms, my mother told us to go change into our swimming attire.

We drove to beach to swim there, but it was really dirty, so we decided to just swim in the swimming pool. Although, we did take a few pictures there. There was a house on stilts and a bridge that connected to it. I tried walking on the bridge to get to the house. It was really scary walking on something so unstable, and it would wobble slightly from time to time. There was also this ‘sinking in’ feeling when you look down off a ledge from a high place. I felt like I was going to fall!

After that, we drove back to the lobby, and went to the swimming pool near it. I put on my goggles and cannonball dived into the pool, making a big splash. We played around in the pool, but at one point, I got a muscle cramp. It was really painful, and I had to rest my leg for about at least thirty minutes. My brother started to mock me, I wanted to hit him so badly. After I was able to move around, I asked my brother to go into the Jacuzzi. We would toss his goggles back and forth. Sometimes, he wouldn’t know where his goggles were, and I had to help him find it. We would also play either Water Tag; basically Tag in water, or Splash Tag; we tag each other by splashing water at each other.

When we were done, we got dressed back into our normal clothes and we headed to the restaurant for dinner. I only ate 3 bowls of corn soup, 2 plates of spicy beef and rice and 2 and a half glasses of soda. It wasn’t very filling and after dinner we headed back to our rooms using another car.

My brother started to whine again about how scary the room was, so I played some calming music, and that seemed to do the trick. I started to eat the remaining snacks we had left, mainly dark chocolate-flavored cookies. Our parents went into the room for a ‘Family Bonding Session’, which was the first we ever had since, like, 2005. My dad was telling jokes, and most of them were pretty funny, especially the one with Judas and Jesus. Heheh… After about an hour, they went back to their own rooms, leaving me and my little brother alone. My brother started whining again, but I just ignored him and he calmed down soon after. Soon, we fell asleep.

The next day, we woke up early for breakfast. All I had was some cereal, fried rice and sausages.

There was another swimming pool near the breakfast area, but it was really dirty and was surrounded by dragonflies. We drove to the lobby, and went swimming again. I swear, it was the only fun thing we did during our 2-day stay in Bintan. We did some of the games I mentioned earlier, and sometimes, our mother would join us.

Fast forward a few hours, and we were back at our rooms, packing up to go back to Singapore. We made sure that our phones were fully charged and that nothing was left behind. We then drove back to the lobby to check out of the hotel. We waited a few minutes for Dad to finish, and then we ate at the restaurant upstairs. The food wasn’t very filling, and I was getting bored. I went downstairs to play my Pokémon Emerald. I played it until we reached the ferry station, and we got up onto the boat using the same unstable wooden slab. I played again for the entire boat ride, and I had beaten the game already before we even arrived back at Singapore. The ride felt shorter since I had something to pass the time. For the most part, I was glad to be back in Singapore. Bintan’s cool and all, but the food there tasted bad and there was no Wifi Signals.
